It is difficult to find a sub-$1,000 camera that will fit into the photo and video editing needs. For video editing to run smoothly and fast, you need both dedicated and higher core count processors. Both photo and video editing require a well-calibrated screen.

How good is a sub-$1,000 laptop?

You will be careful when buying a laptop to make sure that the manufacturer doesn’t cut any corners that you care about. If you don’t know what’s more important to you, you’d spend $2,500 on a laptop that won’t meet your needs.

Which one – Windows, Mac or a Chromebook?

It depends on what you want to do with the machine, and what tasks are important to you. We advise you to first identify the tasks at hand, any available programs/apps that you will be using on your device, then identify compatibility.

Unless you are willing to do with an older model, you will not get a Mac unless you stick to the sub-$1,000 price range. It gets to the question of what software you need to run when you have a choice of Windows or Chrome OS.

Windows is the best choice if you need a wide range of software. The Chrome OS is a good buy if you only need to browse the web, run simple productivity apps, and leverage other operating systems.
